Making or Repairing Sprint Nextel Ringtones
Why did you end up here? You had a communication error saying something about baud rate at the end of a ringtone load? Well simple, you have a bad ringtone and just need to fix it. Fixing a ringtone is basically making a ringtone.
Creating your own free Sprint Nextel ringtones or fixing a bad one
Ok if you have the i265, i275, i405, i450, i560, i710, 730, 750, 760, 830, i833, 836 ,850, 860, i870, i930 you want the ringtone to be a wav file (PCM), 8000hz, 8bits, and 1 channel (or mono). Wav ringtones are the ones with voice or the real song. You can't load mp3 (Yes, I know a few Sprint/Nextel phones do except mp3 files but, for simplicity I am assuming yours doesn't. Go to www.ideninsider.com they had a posting on how to do mp3 tones) or cd tracks straight to the phone they need to be converted first. I recommend 2 simple programs to do this. The first is a sound converter, I use dbpowerampand/or cool edit pro (no longer available but you can search and find it). You can get dbpoweramp at www.dbpoweramp.com (30 free trial $14 after) or here I have the older but free version that I use in the instructions. . You can try any music converter like above in the google ads. You would use it to convert the files to the above format. Then use sound recorder to chop it down to less than 30 secs and to the part of the song that you want or be creative and record your own voice with sound recorder. You already have sound recorder. It comes with windows and is located in accessories. Click start menu, then programs, then accessories, then entertainment, then sound recorder. After you are done chopping the file save it and then convert the saved again with dbpoweramp. Your set that is it. NOW PLEASE NOTE THAT SPRINT/NEXTEL PHONES ARE VERY PICKY AND A LOT OF PROGRAMS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH THE PHONES. IF YOU LOAD A RINGTONE AND GET THE COMMUNICATIONS ERROR AT THE END OF THE LOAD TRY CONVERTING IT AGAIN AND THEN LOAD IT IMMEDIATELY DON'T PLAY IT OR USE IT. IF STILL NO GO THEN TRY A DIFFERENT PROGRAM YOUR IS NOT CUTTING IT. DBPOWERAMP AND COOL EDIT PRO ARE THE ONLY 2 THAT SEEM TO WORK 99% OF THE TIME.

Here is a test file for you to load: ../files_files/Seasame_Street.wav If it opens and plays right click it and save as.
Ok if you have an i90, 95,205,215, 305, 315, 530, and all the above models
also support midi ringtones. Midi ringtones are kinda lame ringtones. They are
the ones with out words, just tones. They are however very small and you
can fit 100 to 200 ringtones in your phone. The midi settings are simple
Sprint/Nextel phones use "type 0". I use one program to chop it and export it to type0. The
program is anvil studios. www.anvilstudio.com
To get ringtones just search google for what ever midi. For example
if you want vanilla ice's ice ice baby then search "ice ice baby
midi" then download it and chop it then export it type 0.
Another program you can use is called GNMIDFNT.

It is a very simple program to use. You open the midi file up in it and
and click the "O" button 
Then you are all set. The only problem about using just this program is you are loading the whole song into the phone and it will take up more room than it has too.
Here is a test file for you to load: ../files_files/Sesamestreet.mid If it opens and plays right click it and save as.
To convert and chop a file using dbpoweramp and sound recorder
Now I am assuming that you install dbpoweramp complete with no errors. If you have problems installing it please contact them not me. I do not know much about it.
Right click the music file (wmf, mp3,
wav, ogg, or what ever format). Choose Convert to
Now choose wav
Make sure you choose the setting of the file to be 8000hz, 8 bit, 1 channel
Ok you converted it click done
Open up the file with sound recorder (click the start menu then go to programs, accessories then entertainment.)
Click play
Stop it at the part that you want the ringtone to start. If you want it to start right at the beginning then ignore this part. click edit the delete before current position.
Now play it to you get to the spot you wan't to stop it. The shorter the better. At the longest make it 30sec. It says that to the left center. It says position. Then click edit then delete after current position.
Click file and save
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
Now close the sound recorder program. Right click the file and CONVERT IT AGAIN to the above settings.
Now you are done. You converted the song to ringtone. The only other thing to do is name it. The phone can not hold a lot of letters across the screen so your have to shorten it. Right click the ringtone and choose rename. Then make it short and simple under 12 letters. Press enter and you are done.
People ask me where do you get songs from. Well wav format files are everywhere. Search using the google box above for the name and put wav anywhere in it. the other is my favorite search engine webcrawler http://msxml.webcrawler.com/info.wbcrwl.toolbar/search/advanced/audio.htm? It will search for music files on peoples websites.
Another would be to use a legal service like itunes or napster (download as many songs as you want for a flat monthly fee) or tune genie ($.99 a song) after you get in click search at the top.
Or the illegal peer to peer file sharing services like limewire or kaza.
The other is premade ringtones that people have uploaded to sites. The most popular 2 sites are www.nextpimp.com and www.snazzie.com There are lots of other site but these 2 are not forums and are very easy to find what you want. Check here for more sites free nextel sprint free ringtone sites.
