02/18/2009 -   I just updated my server ip setting to reflect the new ip change on 02/15/2009. 

 You must run this file to update webjal

#1 Thing it needs

First my server has to be up and running!!

As dumb as this sounds it, it is an old computer (1.2 GHz 384 meg ram Emachine) that I rescued from the scrap heap.  It has no front or side covers.  It is running via networked cable modem in a room with no air conditioning unwatched unused.

If you see a pic of a green light below it is running!!

#2 Thing it needs

Host file edited!

If you get NO PICTURE  run this file.

Then close all internet windows and come back to this page. 

If no picture try this page. 

If you got the picture ignore the #2 you are good on this go to #3

 

#3 Thing it needs

The 2nd thing is Motorola Certificate.

if you have problems installing it from above you can do it the hard way.

Double click the lock in the right

or the certificate to the right of the address bar

or

No lock?  Check the address it should be https  not http still none then click here

 

 

 

 

 

 

#4 Thing it needs

 

  the registry File edited

Close webjal

click here for XP and 2000 or  here for 98 or ME if you had the 1st screen (harrythompson page) of the good screens

If you get an error then you will have to do it manually.   click start, run, and type in regedit

You should see my computer with oh about 5 trees coming from it. 

Choose HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE then MOTOROLA then WEBJAL

Double click WEBJAL then double click SITE_URL

Site url should match this exactly so cut and paste

All Things it needs done

Restart the computer

The above changes do not go into effect until the computer restarts.

That's it,  try webjal.  If it still doesn't work then it is your internet security. 

Like your router, firewall, virus scanner, adware scanner, people at work a proxy server.   

What you should now do is look into an offline loader if you can't figure out how to grant webjal access. 

 

If you were lucky enough to get the harrythompson page when you clicked the http://idenupdate.motorola.com link then GIVE UP for now, use this form to submit a tracker (link not working? that is because you don't read you are not getting the harrythompson page) to me.  I will then be able to search the server logs and what is happening.  If you continue you will change your settings and submitting the form to me was a waist of every ones time. 

 

 

 

 #1 file extraction or over write problem

Should fix Run-Time Error 70 Permission denied   or  you are having problem accessing your hosts file

could usually means 1 of 3 things

1st)  you lack the administrator privileges to install it. 

 If you have window xp or 2000 make sure you have administrator privileges to install.  If not you will get an error.  To check go to start menu, settings, control panel, then users.  It will say under your log in name.

Or 2nd)  the host file is set to read only.   click the start button select Run. Type in

 

    %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\

  then ok right click hosts and click properties and uncheck read only.

or 3rd)  Your security software.  Very Very Very Common.  Your computer is on lock down and wont let you access your hosts file.  Try to disable your security settings.  By security settings, I am referring to virus scanner, adware scanner, or firewall.  You can also try restarting your computer in safe mode with network support.  A lot of security programs will not start in safe mode.  Here is a nice website on safemode.  Scroll Down to the last ditch effort for more on this

 

 

If all else fails try "Safe Mode"

Safe mode is a windows troubleshooting mode that is used to test, check, and/or trouble shoot windows. 

It loads windows with the barebones drivers and files running.  In other word no security programs will start up. 

 

Click start menu

Choose run

Type in msconfig.exe and click ok

If you get an error my file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries folder

Click the tab for boot.ini

check the safeboot option then check the network button (this gives you access to the internet).

Choose to restart

You will get this error when windows starts.  Choose yes. 

Ok try running webjal.  If webjal still doesn't work try the patchers above and then webjal. 

If webjal still doesn't work then it is something in between the webjal server and your computer blocking access.  It could be a router, hub, or proxy server.

 

To exit safemode run the msconfig file again and choose normal.

 

 

If you can't figure it out then you may want to try an offline loader like nextpimp.com has or myjal.

You can email me if you still have problems please let me know the error and when you get it.  Due to the volume of email, I will usually answer them with in 3 - 4 days.  Please be nice and keep in mind I am doing this for free.  I pay to host this site plus I host a full blown dedicated Webjal server but, did not write the software, so it is not "my software" and I don't really care if you think it sucks.  Oh and I am sure you will be surprised to know that I did not sell you those cds on Ebay. Multiple ebay people must make a hell of a living by selling those cds and directing the people who purchased those cds to me for free support.  Very important don't tell me you are going to donate if I help you.  It will not make me help you any better of faster.  I already know 99% of the donation flashers don't come through.
